One Day Without Shoes

Today is Tom’s One Day Without Shoes Day

Ok…everyone knows I’m a shoe girl, for sure. So when these type of events come along…I’m ready to jump in with both feet!

One Day Without Shoes is the day to spread awareness about the impact a simple pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. Today,  April 8th, Tom’s Shoes is asking people to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience a life without shoes first-hand, and inspire others at the same time.

Here’s my barefeet today…not too pretty…but I did polish my toes with a hot, hot, hot famingo pink color from the SouthBeach OPI collection for the occassion!

So many children have no shoes to protect their feet from the elements which can lead to cuts, infection…and worse:

  • In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to school, clean water and to seek medical help.
  • Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
  • Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.
  • In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
  • Podoconiosis is 100% preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes.

I have a closetful of shoes…and people here in America and around the world don’t have any shoes at all. Summer is upon us – would you go to and purchase a new pair of  fabulous summer shoes? For every pair of shoes you purchase for yourself…Tom’s will donate a pair of shoes to a child with none. That can be lifechanging for a child living in poverty.

So come on bare those toes…and raise awareness for the cause: One Day Without Shoes!

We are the World ~ Anniversary

On this date in 1985 the music video We are the World was released on MTV…back in the day when MTV was all about the music. Do you remember those days?

The song raised awareness and monies for the humanitarian aid to Africa. It flew to the top of the charts in a flash and won award after award.  The song was overwhelmingly awesome – when it came on the radio the volume had to be turned full on, and yes, I would sing at the top of my lungs – a sound nobody wants to hear – but I’m just sure I sounded as melodic as Diana Ross…just sure of it!

To say I was an 80’s girl is an understatement for sure. I loved, loved, loved the 80’s. I graduated from high school in the 80’s, got married in the 80’s, and I had my daughter as the 80’s were coming to an end…Lots of new beginnings. I loved the clothes, the big hair, the music – it was just an exciting time in my life with great memories!

Crazy 80's Party

Michael and I recently went to an 80’s party and had a blast dressing up like we did back in the day!

I have to say, even yesterday – I wore a vintage ’85 Christian Dior riding jacket which I purchased on eBay to go with my riding boots…but I did sport it with hair not quite as big as I would have back in the day.

In memory and celebration of the 25 anniversary of the release of the world changing song We Are the World please watch, remember, and smile…and if this puts you in a mindset to donate to an awesome cause – you can donate $10 to the relief efforts in Haiti by texting CONVOY to 50555 and support a cause that I totally believe in.
