Rockin the World …One Cupcake at a Time

One Day

One Day to Feed the World

With just one day, you can make a world of difference in a child’s life. The difference between hungry and happy. The difference between a grimace and a grin. All it takes is one day’s worth of wages to make that kind of difference. One day like any other. One day of compassion. One day of sharing. One Day To Feed The World.

Today is: One Day Without Shoes ~ April 5, 2011

Shoes …for me that just about says it all in my fashionista world! I love SHOES! I love shopping for them! I love finding that bargain! I love love love boots and a the huge sale Dillard’s has once a year on shoes/boots with an extra 50% off.  I am totally in love with a pair of Christian Louboutin Bianca Platform shoes that I know I can’t afford and probably will never own.

…it’s almost embarrassing how many shoes I have. You notice I said “Almost”

For me to think of a child with no shoes just makes we want to cry. Those precious little bare feet in a third world country, getting cracked, cut, bruised, diseased.

…how do they run and play and jump and dance? This makes me sad.

…but One Day!

My friend, Trevor, recently went to do a shoe drop with the organization Tom’s Shoes …and he said it was pretty life changing …not just for the kids …but mostly for him. What a humbling experience to fit all those little feet with a brand new pair of shoes. Yep Tom’s Shoes totally rocks! What a vision that started small and went viral for the cause of helping others. (Applause, Applause!)

I love the concept – Purchase a pair of Tom’s Shoes …and a pair of shoes will be provided to a child in need.

Over the past several years organizations have caught on and taking on the cause of One Day Without Shoes. Entire companies conducting business with no shoes. Coaches coaching basketball games without shoes. Going to and from work, walking the streets, to find out just what a single day of an unprotected foot can feel like.

Will you go One Day Without Shoes to help raise awareness?!

Go Get a Pedi so those toes look fab …and not callouses showing …I mean we are fashionista’s you know!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

Fashionista Friday ….I’m Taking the 31 Days of Pink Challenge for Breast Cancer Awareness

Hey it’s Fastionista Friday and I’m taking Audrey McClellan – Mom Generation’s 31 Days of Pink Challenge for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Today is the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I am also pledging to wear something PINK each day of October.  I am a Black\White kinda girl – I don’t have much PINK  in the wardrobe, so it’s gonna be a tough for me.  I will be adding some touches of PINK to remind myself about the importance and power and beauty in the color and what it stands for – all month long.

I’ll  be posting picts of the PINK of the day on Twitter! ! Today so far I just have my PINK ribbon …I’ll have to up that a little tonite as I’m sure my Michael will be taking me out to paint the town PINK tonite!

I’ll also be posting Breast Cancer Facts each day on @Red__Velvet Twitter

31 Days of PINK… come on ladies, let’s do it!

And don’t forget to “Like” the BCA Pledge page on Facebook!

Will You Take the Challenge?

Revelant Mag & Convoy of Hope

“We Need Help”

It’s a simple phrase, even an obvious one.

Standing on a hillside overlooking Haiti’s nearly destroyed capital city, the phrase “We Need Help” is painted on a piece of cardboard in the rubble and feels as accurate now, six months after the earthquake, as it did then. Even though money poured in from all sides (remember the $10 donations to the Red Cross via text message? [Convoy of Hope also took $10 text message donations.] The telethon with every celebrity ever known?), it seems like nothing has happened – as if this tiny half-island nation has somehow become a  HOPE-free zone.

“We Need Help” Simple because of its directness and obvious because, well, it’s spray-painted in the aftermath of the January 12, 2010 earthquake – one of the largest natural disasters to ever affect the Western Hemisphere. “We Need Help” But how? How can we even begin to help? How did it get this bad? And, perhaps most pressingly, where is God in all this?

Continue reading this article here… (Relevant Magazine)

Have people forgotten about Haiti and the need? Have they forgotten about the many children who need food, shelter, and a school?

Convoy of Hope is still making progress in Haiti – they were there before the quake …and have stepped up efforts since …and will continue.

Relevant Magazine is partnering with Convoy of Hope to build three schools in Haiti. Schools where children will be receiving nutrition and education. Haiti has had an urgent crisis, and the world responded. We now need to look ahead and help Haiti in its long-term recovery.

…and you can help: Rebuilding schools in Haiti…

It’s impossible to read about Haiti and not want to do something. The question is: What’s truly helpful? Education is the future of Haiti and yet it’s one of the most overlooked areas of aid. RELEVANT and  Convoy of Hope are rebuilding three schools that were destroyed after the earthquake. All donated money will go directly to the rebuilding efforts, which will be done by local workers. To learn more about this effort and to offer your donation, visit our donate page.
