One Day Without Shoes

Today is Tom’s One Day Without Shoes Day

Ok…everyone knows I’m a shoe girl, for sure. So when these type of events come along…I’m ready to jump in with both feet!

One Day Without Shoes is the day to spread awareness about the impact a simple pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. Today,  April 8th, Tom’s Shoes is asking people to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience a life without shoes first-hand, and inspire others at the same time.

Here’s my barefeet today…not too pretty…but I did polish my toes with a hot, hot, hot famingo pink color from the SouthBeach OPI collection for the occassion!

So many children have no shoes to protect their feet from the elements which can lead to cuts, infection…and worse:

  • In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to school, clean water and to seek medical help.
  • Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
  • Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.
  • In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
  • Podoconiosis is 100% preventable with basic foot hygiene and wearing shoes.

I have a closetful of shoes…and people here in America and around the world don’t have any shoes at all. Summer is upon us – would you go to Toms.com and purchase a new pair of  fabulous summer shoes? For every pair of shoes you purchase for yourself…Tom’s will donate a pair of shoes to a child with none. That can be lifechanging for a child living in poverty.

So come on bare those toes…and raise awareness for the cause: One Day Without Shoes!
